Mercy Services Care Worker Program

We don’t take your spirit for learning an important and life changing skill for granted. At Mercy Services, we offer the resources to learn with the opportunity to earn a part time wage.

The road to working on a new care worker career can be tough when too many on-the-job learning programs don’t pay you for your dedicated time. At Mercy Services, we want to ensure our care worker program is financially sustainable for you, so that you get the very best foot up while getting your foot in the door.

About the opportunity

If you are interested in participating in a successful, industry-renowned program that combines skills, experience and support with part-time paid employment while completing a nationally accredited Certificate III in Individual Support, we’re looking for you.

We have partnered with Essential Skills (a registered training organisation) to create a company-designed, independent program that not only provides you with an opportunity to complete a nationally accredited qualification, but also learn from a values-based organisation who strive for exceptional care standards.

We are currently inviting applications for interested candidates to participate in this successful program.

We have 7 spots available across the following:

  • Up to 2 x candidates interested working in a Residential Aged Care Facility, based in Singleton

  • Up to 5 x candidates to learn and work in the Home and Community Care setting, based across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Regions.

All candidates will also have an opportunity to learn across both residential and home care.

When does it start?

The program starts on Monday 17 January 2022 and runs for 26-weeks (6 months).

You are required to commit 22 hours per week for the program. This includes:

  • 2 days per week 8.45am – 4.30pm classroom time, based at Warabrook, New South Wales. The course runs for approximately 17 weeks.

  • 7.5 hrs of supervised employment in the community or residential aged care setting. This could be at our Singleton Aged Care Facility or based from Cameron Park and supporting our clients across Newcastle and the Lake Macquarie region.

All training placement hours will be provided by Mercy Services and there will be opportunities to learn across both our residential aged care facility in Singleton and in the community based settings.

How much do we pay?

You will be a Mercy Services paid employee on a 6 month, fixed term basis.

We are proud to pay our students for their time to attend practical placement and classroom training with Mercy Services.

How much does it cost?

Training fees are at the participant’s own cost and will vary depending on eligibility for subsidised training. Based on the current full fee payment for the Certificate III in Individual Support, the maximum payment for the course would be $1750.
